Weird Conversations in My Mind

“Be still and know that I am God” Psalm 46:10

Relax. Take some time for yourself to pause and enjoy a few moments outside.

Breathe in the fresh air and listen to the sounds of nature.

Oh, I have to finish that letter.

Relax and take a deep breath. Let it out slowly. That’s it. Relax.

I have to empty the dishwasher.

Listen to the birds singing in the trees, watch them as they swoop through the backyard skimming the tops of the trees.

Oh, there is still a load of laundry in the dryer that needs to be folded.

You’re not relaxing.

Stop thinking and concentrate on doing nothing for a few minutes!

Right, okay, hmm…What shall I cook for dinner?

Focus on the colour of the sky.

See the intense blue and the light wisp of white in the cloud going by.

Oh dear, my windows are dirty.

Stop it. Focus on the sounds of the birds singing and the children playing.

Oh, I forgot I need to call and make that dentist appointment.

Right. Take a deep breath. Inhale. Exhale. Slow my pulse. Relax.

I wonder what I should wear to the dinner this weekend….

Tilt my head back onto the cushions and close my eyes.

Listen to the sound of the wind as it rustles the leaves in the garden

Oh, right, I need to till my garden. I wonder when I can plant.

Hush now, brain. Relax!

Right, relax. This is supposed to be good for me.

Feel the warm sun on your eyelids and face.

Oh shoot, I forgot to put on sunscreen…

Hm, okay, settle down now and relax.

Release the tension in my shoulders, and wiggle my fingers and toes.

Toes….I need a pedicure. I should call when I’m done here…

Fingers and toes, fingers and toes,

I need to book a visit to see the new baby…

Right. Thank you, Lord, for all you do in my life. You are so good to me.

Breath deeply in and release slowly out

What is that smell? Oh dear, I think I left something on the stove.

I’m humming the tune now! Time to get up and at it!

Breathe in peace.

Exhale stress.

Laugh with love.

Sing for joy.

Enjoy the little moments in each day and find the humour in life,

even when you’re having weird conversations in your mind.
